What is reflexology, and how can it benefit your overall wellbeing
Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic and complementary therapy. The theory behind it is that different points on the feet, but also on the hands, ears and face, corresponds to different parts, organs and glands of the body, referred to as reflexes. By using different techniques and pressure, a professional and well-trained reflexologist can work these points with an aim to bring the body back to balance.
Reflexology can support and make a positive difference to a person managing and living with an illness, through the release of tension, improvement of sleep and mood, as well as enhanced relaxation in the body.
Reflexology encourages the flow of lymph and circulation, assisting with the nourishment of the body and removal of waste products. It stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping the body to achieve a deeply relaxed state, which in turn aids so many other processes in the body both physically and mentally. As when we are tense, stressed and anxious it can significantly impact and affect our overall health and well-being.
Reflexology is a complementary and holistic therapy which works well alongside medical treatments. It does not aim to cure illnesses, but to support the whole person in their overall well-being.
